Domaine Huet
Le Haut-Lieu Sec · Vouvray · 2023
Selected for you by Caroline Williams, Curated Cellar
The story
In 1928, Victor Huet, a Parisian bistro owner, settled in Vouvray in the Loire Valley and bought a vineyard called Le Haut-Lieu. With his son Gaston, he built it into one of the most celebrated estates in France. For nearly a century, Huet has shown the world how extraordinary Chenin Blanc can be, from bone-dry to lusciously sweet. The domaine has been farmed biodynamically for more than three decades, long before it was in vogue.
The vineyard
Le Haut-Lieu is where it all began, as this is the family’s very first vineyard. It sits on the plateau above the Loire, with the deepest clay soils of the estate’s three famous crus, which makes its wines the most generous and approachable.
In the glass
Dry and graceful, with white flowers, a fine chalky texture and bright, lifted freshness. This is Chenin Blanc at its most elegant.
Enjoying it
Serve chilled, around 50–55°F. Take it out of the fridge 15 minutes before pouring or serve straight from the cellar. Lovely now, and Huet’s dry wines also age beautifully. Perfect with roast chicken, seared scallops, creamy fish dishes or goat cheese, a Loire classic.
A note from Caroline
A birthday deserves a wine with a story, and few have a better one than Huet. I hope this bottle brings a little Loire Valley joy to your celebration. Cheers to you!
