Arnaud Lambert
Clos Mazurique · Saumur Rouge · 2024
Selected for you by Caroline Williams, Curated Cellar

The story
Arnaud Lambert grew up working beside his father, Yves, at their family estate, Domaine Saint-Just, in the Loire Valley. In 2009 they were offered vines from the historic Château de Brézé, on a hill whose wines were prized among France’s finest centuries ago. Arnaud has carried the estate forward on his own since 2011, farming organically and making some of the most exciting Cabernet Franc in the Loire.

The vineyard
Clos Mazurique is a single west-facing parcel on the gentle slopes of the Brézé hill, planted in 1990 on clay and limestone. The wine is 100% Cabernet Franc, fermented with native yeasts and aged only in concrete, with no oak, so the fruit and the limestone speak clearly.

In the glass
Bright raspberry, cherry and floral notes with a touch of orange zest and spice. Silky tannins, lively acidity and tantalizing tension.

Enjoying it
Serve slightly cool, around 58–60°F, after 20–30 minutes in a decanter or a large glass. Delicious now and over the next several years. Wonderful with roast chicken, duck, mushrooms, charcuterie or a classic steak frites.

A note from Caroline
Cabernet Franc from the Loire is one of my great loves: elegant, fragrant and endlessly food-friendly. I hope this bottle feels like a toast to good work and good company. Cheers to you!
