Champagne Pierre Péters
Cuvée de Réserve · Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru
Selected for Atria by Caroline Williams, Curated Cellar
The story
The Péters family has tended vines in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of Champagne’s Côte des Blancs, since 1840. They made their first Champagne in 1919, and today Rodolphe Péters, the latest generation, leads the estate. Le Mesnil is one of the region’s most revered grand cru villages, prized for Chardonnay of remarkable purity and finesse, and Péters is among its finest grower-producers: a family that farms its own vines and makes its own wine.
The secret: a “perpetual reserve”
A defining feature of this Champagne is the family’s réserve perpétuelle: a reserve of wines dating back to 1988, replenished over time with younger wines. It typically makes up about half the Cuvée de Réserve blend, bringing together the freshness of youth and the depth of older vintages. The result is consistent and quietly profound.
In the glass
Pure grand cru Chardonnay: citrus, white flowers and hazelnut, finishing with chalky minerality and a lovely saline note. Elegant, precise and celebratory.
Enjoying it
Serve well chilled, around 45–50°F. Try it in a white wine glass rather than a flute to let the aromas open. It’s delicious now and will also age gracefully for several years. Wonderful with oysters, gougères, roast chicken, aged Comté, or simply a celebration.
A note from Caroline
Some wines are made to impress; this one is made to delight. I hope it brings a little sparkle to your holidays. Cheers!
